Stafford Fox investment strengthens stem cell-based drug discovery at reNEW Melbourne

A major philanthropic investment from the Stafford Fox Medical Research Foundation will help accelerate stem cell-based drug discovery at reNEW Melbourne, based at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, supporting the development of potential new treatments for a range of currently incurable childhood conditions.

The AUD $4.05 million (€2.48 million) grant will support the acquisition of advanced imaging technologies in the Stafford Fox Drug Discovery Facility that will expand the Facility’s ability to screen and identify promising new drug candidates using patient-derived stem cell models.

The investment will also provide critical support for early-stage research projects focused on discovering and developing new therapies for conditions affecting the heart, kidneys, skeletal muscle, blood, brain and lungs.

This funding represents an important step forward in building Australia’s capacity for stem cell-enabled drug discovery and translating research into real-world health outcomes for children and families.
