Assistant Professor Nienke de Graeff (De Vries group, reNEW Leiden) has been named a member of the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) Ethics Committee. She joins a team of 13 global experts in the field of bioethics, including reNEW PREPARE lead Megan Munsie.
The ISSCR Ethics Committee plays a vital role in identifying and proposing ways to address ethical issues encountered in stem cell research. It works closely with the Public Policy and other ISSCR Committees to provide guidance and education to ISSCR members and stakeholders, ensuring responsible scientific practices in areas such as clinical translation, biobanking, and emerging technologies.
“I am excited to join the ISSCR Ethics Committee and look forward to making a valuable contribution to stem cell research in this new role,” said De Graeff.
De Graeff is an expert on the ethical and societal implications of emerging biotechnologies. She has a specific focus on ethical questions around embryo models, stem cell and gene therapies and regenerative medicine. With her expertise, De Graeff will contribute to the Committee’s efforts to promote ethical integrity among the stem cell community and build public trust in Regenerative Medicine worldwide.
