Chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and COPD, affect around half a billion people worldwide. These diseases can make it difficult to breathe and have a major impact on people’s quality of life. To better understand these conditions, we first need to understand how the lungs develop and how their different cells and tissues work together. In our lab, we use models from different species, including the frog, to study how the lung develops and functions, from the level of the whole tissue down to individual cells.
reNEW research
My research explores how specialized cells develop and organize themselves. I am particularly interested in how the different parts inside a cell are positioned and how this organization helps the cell perform its functions. By understanding how cells arrange themselves and work together, we can learn more about how tissues develop and function.
